We Teach CDL Driving Skills!

Looking to upgrade your skills for a better job with your current employer? We do that!

Eagle Nest Enterprises is NOT a state sanctioned higher education training institution, and we do NOT grant career school diplomas. Our target demographic is NOT people looking to break into a new career, but those who are upgrading their driving skills for a better job with their current employer with a commercial driver’s license (CDL) . If your employer requires a state sanctioned career school diploma, we are NOT for you. Please verify with your employer what is needed before you train with us. We are a specialty contract training company specializing in upgrading CDL Permit holders to full CDL drivers to address insurance and liability concerns. As a result of what you do with us, you will be prepared to competently pass your practical test to get your CDL. What we do a very narrow portion of the requirements of the new federally mandated Entry Level Driver Training (ELDT) until you are competent in under 16 hours. You do the theory written portion of the class through any independent, non-dictated accredited web based distance learning software as a prerequisite. Then you get out with our driver trainer and learn the public road skills until you are judged competent to take the test with the state’s 3rd party tester.

Our CDL Training Includes:

  • We teach class A and B vehicles. Our truck, or yours! Flatbeds for hay hauling, boxes for general commodities.
  • All training vehicles are air brake with manual or automatic transmission options.
  • If you train in our vehicles, you can test in our vehicles! Testing is local in Clackamas
  • Choose fifth wheel type hitch for unrestricted tow options.
  • All driving training is done one-on-one with best education practices
  • State licensed Technical educator with current teaching license.
  • Learner centered instruction delivered in maximum effective 2- hour blocks.

How long is your CDL Training?

While we can’t say exactly how long it will take you to achieve “competence”, we have seen a range of three hours for experienced farm endorsement holders, to a high of 16 hours for very little car driving experience. If you finish early, that’s all you get charged for! You come to us with self study CDL permit already issued by the DMV, and you complete the ELDT Theory classroom online before you come to us. We keep our billable training hours low by assigning prerequisites on your own time. Anything we are not charging you for does not count toward the arbitrary bullshit HECC 16 hour rule. We encourage you to continue to drive with your employer before and between our sessions too.

Step-By-Step CDL Training

Our program step by step:

  1. Get Oregon CDL Driver’s manual —> Oregon Department of Transportation : Oregon Commercial Driver Manual – Oregon Information : Oregon Driver & Motor Vehicle Services : State of Oregon
  2. Contact ENE and get our recommendation for third party Web based ELDT software. We have some favorites, but you’re on your own to choose one. (Only an HECC idiot bureaucrat would think that this would count against the 16 hour cap on private students!) https://courses.eldtnation.com/offers/aiRmaqAL/checkout
  3. Get your DOT physical completed. We have a recommendation in our area, Home – Donald Ives, FNP but you are on your own to choose.
  4. Pass your Oregon DMV CDL permit and get it issued prior to your behind the wheel drive time. Keep in mind that the state requires you to have your permit for a minimum of TWO week prior to a drive test. We try to test ASAP after training completion.
  5. Contact Caroline at (503)502-7839 to get driving time booked.
  6. Finish ELDT software online. We have to check whether it is done before the state’s 3rd party tester can schedule you. Don’t let this hold up the process!
  7. Drive until competent and the ELDT skills inventory is complete. You are NOT going to be submitted for a practical test until we are highly confident in your ability to pass and make us all look good.
  8. Caroline will schedule your 3rd party test when you have ELDT, Range time, and Driving completed and signed off.
  9. Pass the drive test with state sanctioned 3rd party testing service. You pay your truck use fee to us prior to test, and you pay the tester’s fee to them separately on test day.
  10. Get license issued at DMV 24 hours after your successful test.
